Golden Retriever puppies are curious, mouthy, and surprisingly resourceful at finding trouble. Here's what to secure:
Inside:
Remove or secure electrical cords, small objects, and toxic plants
Store shoes, kids' toys, and valuables out of reach
Block access to stairs until puppy is confident (if applicable)
Designate a "puppy zone" with easy-to-clean flooring for the first few weeks
Outside:
Check fence lines for gaps or escape routes (Golden puppies can squeeze through surprisingly small spaces)
Remove toxic plants (sago palms are common on the Gold Coast and deadly to dogs)
Secure pool areas—puppies are naturally drawn to water but need supervision
